We suggest that you read an extended version of the prayers at the end of Great Compline before reading the prayers of commemoration. Father Sofian recommended a similar collection of prayers – for personal commemorations – to the young people of The Association Romanian Orthodox Christian Students of Bucharest in the 90’s.

Prayers of Commemoration

For the Living

O God, loose, remit, and forgive our errors done voluntarily and involuntarily, in word and deed, known and unknown, during the night and the day, in mind and thought. Forgive us for all of them, as the good One and lover of mankind.

Forgive those who hate us and wrong us, O Lord. do good to those who do good to us. Fulfill the saving petitions of our friends and relatives and grant them eternal life.

Seek out and grant healing to those who are helpless.

Guide those at sea. Travel with those who are traveling. Protect those who are in the sky and in space.

Enlighten the leaders of the world and grant them wisdom so that they may follow Your holy will.

Forgive the sins of those who serve us and give alms to us.

Have mercy on those who asked us, unworthy ones, to pray for them, according to Your great mercy.

Remember, Lord, all our Orthodox hierarchs.

Remember, Lord, my spiritual father (name) and all our brother hieromonks, priests, hierodeacons, deacons, monks and nuns, and all of our brethren in Christ.

Remember, Lord, our brethren held captive by the passions of this life, and save them from all enslavement.

Remember, Lord, those caught in despair, in grave illnesses, and great sorrows.

Remember, Lord, our brethren who are in trouble, and deliver them from all dangers.

Remember, Lord, those who bring gifts and do good works in Your holy churches, and fulfill their requests leading to salvation and eternal life.

Remember, Lord, all who seek the path of salvation. Help them to understand the Right Fath in Spirit and Truth.

Remember me as well, Lord, the unworthy one, and forgive me for any mistake in word, deed, or thought; and deliver me from all ignorance, forgetfulness, and laziness, and from hardness of heart; and do not abandon me.

Remember us as well, Lord, Your lowly, sinful, and unworthy servants. Enlighten our minds with the light of Your knowledge and set us aright on the path of Your commandments.

Remember as well, Lord, these Your servants:

… ….

(here we add the baptismal names of those for whom we are praying)

with their families.

After commemorating the names, we add: Have mercy, Lord, and protect all who are involved in this spiritual work, called the Lamp of the Burning Bush, with their families. Amen.

For the Departed

Remember, Lord, Your servants fallen asleep in the Lord:

… …

(here we add the baptismal names of those for whom we are praying)

With all of their generations that have fallen asleep.

Remember, Lord, all of my kin in spirit and flesh who have fallen asleep in the Lord, with all of their generations that have fallen asleep.

Remember, Lord, all my enemies, benefactors, and friends who have fallen asleep in the Lord, with all of their generations that have fallen asleep.

Remember, Lord, those who hope in the resurrection to eternal life, our fathers and brothers who have fallen asleep, and all those who have ended this life in piety and faith. Grant them rest in a place of light, where the radiance of Your countenance shines. Amen.
